A few weeks ago, I ministered a message in bible study entitled, “Protect Your Peace”. The message was intended to encourage people and remind them that regardless of life’s circumstances, God has given all of us a gift called peace. Well I must say that I have definitely been put in a position where I’ve had to practice what I preached. Once the word was released, it seemed as though everything began to fall apart and I mean everything. I lost a lot money, doors were closed in my face, people I care for greatly began to reject me, and the list goes on. I would pray and try to maintain a positive attitude, yet found myself having weekly meltdowns. I cried, screamed, and sometimes would shy away from others because I allowed my problems to bring me down. I was encouraging others to protect their peace, all awhile my peace was gone.
I had to go back to God and figure out how I lost the very thing I’m encouraging others to hold on to. Basically, I was too worried about my life. I’m very driven and ambitious so when things aren’t happening as fast as I’d like them to, I start to panic. I had to go back to my map, which is my Bible for direction and understanding. One of my favorite passages is Philippians 4:6-7. It tells us, “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. I began to fast, pray, and allow God to restore me. Suddenly, I felt my peace and joy come back unto me. It happened just like that! Once I released my cares to God, He began to restore and remind me that “peace” is a place within. It’s inside all of us.
Sometimes the cares of this world can cloud your vision and cause you to lose sight of this place of peace, but you must fight to get there. Peace has the power to take you to a higher place in the spirit where you aren’t shaken or moved by external chaos and confusion that maybe surrounding you. I just want to encourage someone who’s reading this right now with 2 simple words, pray and chill. I know it’s easier said than done but as soon as you pray, chill, and let God handle it, all things will began to fall in place. Peace isn’t the absence of problems, but peace gives you power and strength to overcome.
